Thanks for another excellent and meticulously researched post. Some big philosophical questions here as well, which I find 'impressive' that the US legislature think they can nail down. 😅 I am genuinely fascinated to see what their guidance looks like, as in many ways it will have to define 'what is art', something that we have been struggling with for centuries. Will also be really interesting to see what approaches are taking by other countries and how this aligns (or not) across the globe...

The international view is actually a great point. The us can’t enforce these dated laws if other countries end up ruling quite differently. I think we just need some major revamp! Interesting ideas to discuss either way :)

This ia hilarious! This is insane! A machine incapable of action, movement or thought actually 'owns' any work using it. Does this reasoning also apply to the pen used for drawig/writing the work on paper?

Seriously, I do not know how they can 'frame' this latest idiocy when I *cannot* (expressly told I cannot remove AI without collapsing my machine!) take the AI off any programme.

With all the exorbitant costs and trouble involved in publishing these days, I am relieved those days are gone.

One very serious question: if they do manage to filch my book, will they be prepared to answer the massive and horrific court case that will descend upon them? (Litigated by some very powerful figures that have nothing to do with me.)

You bring up fantastic things. I think the biggest issue we’re seeing here is that our outside legal system is not keeping up with the technology.

I cannot imagine a world where this stays the same way. Imagine all the video games that are being created with AI now could I just start taking them using all those new characters?

Seriously, isn't it simply another case of some people who may have created or adapted algorithms, now want to acquire yet more money without actually doing the work? (My memoir took me 25 years and 8 drafts to write.)

Atleast we know your memoir is amongst the most authentic and real written works out there. :) you probably got to add more each year. Writing one of these seems like such a challenge, congrats!

Thank you. It is both funny and harrowing from the moment the two policemen arrived at my garden gate: 'We want to speak to your husband about a murder'. A real wake up...

No kidding ha ha! Well, it also sounds like it’s probably more exciting than most of ours.

Pretty interesting, I hadn’t realize it was this far along yet.

I don't "heart" the content - I appreciate how you're framing the argument. Will roll out for my AI and Ethics class in a week or so, well done!

Thanks a ton! Not sure if this is a contrarian take or not but seemed important to bring up. Also that sounds fantastic that you’re teaching an AI and Ethics class. I took one years ago (more philosophy back then) and it stuck with me.

It is contrarian but with a valid line of reasoning, so I appreciate that! That's most of what an educator can generally hope for with resources...I'll let you know how it goes with the students, too...

Really appreciate that. It’s a great feeling to know it hit home with someone enough to discuss. Will look forward to the update!
